2023 AMOCAT Arts Award
We cannot express how grateful we are to have received the 2023 AMOCAT Arts Award for Community Outreach by an Organization. Thank you so much for acknowledging our community.
A lot of us came here as refugees - from a war-torn country fleeing genocide. All we wanted was safety and refuge - how lucky we should be that Tacoma has also given us a home. A home that allowed us to build a community, to keep our traditions, and truly express ourselves.
As much as the Southeast Asian Comedy Collective would like to take credit for the community outreach, engagement, and involvement in the arts, all of the credit belongs to our wonderful Southeast Asian communities. The impact was a collective of their efforts. None of this would have been possible without their support.
Thank you so much to all our peoples that supported us, to TACOMA ARTS COMMISSION, that acknowledged us, and to Tacoma that made us.
Our Story
The Southeast Asian Comedy Collective are some of the homies from around the way - working to upend stereotypes and what it means to be a person of color in America through stand-up comedy.
Made up of talented comedians and community members from across the BIPOC diaspora, the collective is using our voices to share our unique experiences and perspectives with the world.
